Six organizations that perform or promote abortion received at least $967 million in federal funding in fiscal years 2002 through 2009, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office.

The report, made public June 16, looked at government funding given to Advocates for Youth, the Guttmacher Institute, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Population Council of the United States, and Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States.

GAO had been asked for the report by Rep. Pete Olson, R-Texas, and 30 other members of Congress, including five senators.

“With the national debt over $13 trillion — costing every American $118,000 — we must apply strict scrutiny to every federal dollar allocated,” said Olson at a June 16 news conference at the U.S. Capitol.

“That this tax money is spent by organizations that offend the majority of Americans (who oppose taxpayer funding of groups that promote or perform abortions) only further justifies the need for this alarming report,” he added.

The GAO report showed the following government funding:

– Advocates for Youth, $8.7 million.

– Guttmacher Institute, $12.7 million.

– International Planned Parenthood Federation, $3.9 million.

– Planned Parenthood Federation of America, $657.1 million.

– Population Council of the United States, $284.3 million.

– Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, $300,000.

School officials in Provincetown, Mass., recently adopted a policy to make condoms available to elementary and high school students beginning this fall.

The new policy requires school nurses to supply the contraceptive if a student asks for it.

With each free condom, students will receive counseling, including information on abstinence. But parents will not be informed and cannot ask the school not to provide condoms to their child.

Kris Mineau, President, Massachusetts Family Institute, called the new policy “radical” and “absurd.”

“Making condoms available to first graders bullies parents to submit to an agenda that promotes sexual promiscuity to innocent children at their most vulnerable age,” Mineau said in a statement.

The policy states that the Provincetown schools do not approve of sexual activity by students. Still, residents are not uncomfortable with it.

Mineau commented that the decision by the Provincetown School Committee “demonstrates the lengths to which some will go to emasculate parents’ rights and undermine the notion of encouraging children to delay sexual activity.

Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick has asked the district superintendent to revise the policy. He told The Associated Press that he was against the age of the students covered by the policy and to the provision not allowing parents to be informed of any condom distribution.

“Obviously, this is a local issue, but I expressed my concern about the counseling and access being age-appropriate, and, for young kids, that parents ought to be involved,” he told AP.

Following the uproar, School Committee Chairman Peter Grosso said Thursday that the committee will revisit the policy, according to The Boston Globe.

But Grosso added that he would not approve a policy that covers only high school students. “[B]ecause we all know kids are sexually active before high school,” he told the local Globe.

The Massachusetts Family Institute, meanwhile, has urged Provincetown parents to take legal action “if necessary” to overturn the “inane policy.”

It’s easy to complain. We likely don’t realize how much we do it. I believe it’s one of the most challenging things to overcome.

Philippians 2:14 says, “Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining…” (The Amplified Bible). That’s a pretty clear command. And not something anyone can do in their own strength.

Are you speaking life or death?
Remember that every word you speak has some kind of effect. Proverbs 18:21 says that our words have the power of life or death in them – the way we speak really does matter. So it makes sense that we should avoid complaining at all cost.

I think of complaining as the enemy’s language. When we do it, we open the door for him to come into a situation and cause trouble. On the other hand, praise and thanksgiving is God’s language.

Like I said before, it’s easy to complain. There are many things that happen every day that we could murmur about if we let ourselves go there. But they really aren’t worth the effort it takes to get upset and gripe about it.

For example, we travel a lot and stay in a lot of hotels. I like to take a hot bath to relax before speaking at our conferences. Once when I went to fix my bath, I discovered there was no hot water. So I called the front desk to see about getting hot water, but they weren’t able to fix the problem when I needed them to. And later, I learned that my room was the only room in the hotel that didn’t have hot water!

Now, I could have gotten all upset about this at the time. But God helped me to relax about it and resist the temptation to get upset. And the truth is, complaining wouldn’t have changed anything – it would have just made the situation harder.

It’s about an attitude of the heart.
Complaining comes from an ungrateful, prideful attitude of the heart. It causes us to feel that we shouldn’t be inconvenienced or have bad things happen to us.

It’s easy for us to think, Why are you making such a big deal out of it? when someone else is inconvenienced or struggling. But when we have to deal with the pain ourselves, it’s a different story. That’s when we say, “Why is this happening to me?!”

Many people in the western world are spoiled by the conveniences of our culture. We’re used to instant gratification, getting what we want when we want it. We don’t like discomfort or sacrifice. We don’t want anything to be hard. This causes us to have an immature, selfish perspective of difficult situations and say things we shouldn’t say.

I’ve learned that there’s a better approach: Look for the treasure in every trial.

The truth is, I’ve done most of my spiritual growing during the hardest and most painful times of my life. The trials of life have caused me to press in to God. And as I’ve done that, He’s changed me. He’s helped me to develop an attitude of gratitude and humility, which has brought real freedom into my life.

What’s real freedom? Real freedom is being able to not have my way and still be just as happy as if I did.

Making progress results in more of God’s power in our lives.
It’s a difficult process getting to the point of having real freedom. But it’s worth it! We just need to accept that gaining spiritual maturity is going to hurt. Growing up in God is not comfortable. There are times of sacrifice involved. And there will be times when God will ask you to do things and you’ll feel that you can’t stand it – but He’ll give you the grace to do it.

Something else that helps me is meditating on scriptures about watching the words of my mouth. I like to pray Psalm 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord…” (The Amplified Bible). There are many more. I encourage you to find them and pray them over yourself often. Daily is a good idea!

Make it your goal to have a constant attitude of gratitude. Resist the temptation to complain and instead praise and thank God for who He is and all He’s done for you. By God’s grace and through His strength, you can overcome complaining and live each day with a thankful heart!

They’re heating up online stores like Book22 and My Beloveds Garden, where devout couples can browse for everything from “intimacy kits” to lubricants.

Book22.com, which sells “edibles,” massage oils and games, was started by Joy Wilson two years ago, according to NPR.com. Discovering she had little desire for sex after having her first baby, Wilson and her husband started shopping for marital aids but found that Internet searches turned up porn sites.

“I was really surprised that it was that bad,” she told NPR.com. So she started her own “sin-free” sex toy business, selling books, toys and even advice. The store’s name is a reference to the Song of Solomon, which makes up the 22nd book of the Bible.

Explaining that she and her husband carefully evaluate products before adding them to the site, Wilson told NPR: “We pray about things before we add them to our site. We live our lives very openly in front of Jesus, so we just kind of pray for direction about which way he would have us go, and I have to be honest with you – he’s really surprised us. Almost our whole entire ’special order’ page has come about from that.” That section features a “weekend adventure kit” and a “sexy Velcro kit.”

At MyBelovedsGarden.net, which hawks everything from lingerie to body jewelry to romance games, there’s also a blog with advice on issues such as how to repair a troubled marriage and how to prevent a partner from having an affair. The site stresses that the products can enhance the quality of a Christ-centered marriage and alludes to the bargains that are available.
